The Interdisciplinary Group of Studies in Communication, Politics and Social Change (COMPOLITICAS) is an academic collective devoted to the theoretical, political and critical-historical study of the processes of social change and development involving communication and symbolic mediations.
From its very foundation, COMPOLITICAS was acknowledged by the Andalusian Research Plan (SEJ456) as an academic and cooperative network aiming at the analysis of the changes and significant actants within the framework of public information and communication. All of this, from an open and comprehensive approach in which theory and practice, cultural thought and cultural dinamics meet within the scope of a critical perspective and a highly productive and emancipating research culture. The founder´s and group members´ academic belief is, according to this principle, to spread knowledge on communication theory and its most advanced manifestations, with the ultimate purpose of achieving notable progress in the organization, praxis and representation of communication and cultural industries by empowering the theoretical-methodological apparatus and its criticism, as well as the sources available as historical heritage on communication procedures, surpassing this way the customary forms of instrumental rationalization.
In this context, COMPOLITICAS hosts and promotes, among other actions, several formative and research projects, such as the Centro Iberoamericano de Comunicación Digital (CICO, Latin American Center for Digital Communication), the Seminario de Estudios Europeos en Comunicación (Seminar of European Studies on Communication), the Eurasia Observatory, and the CARACOL Network.
